RefWhistle has had its first public outing. At Kanga Cup 2026 in Canberra, we partnered with Capital Football to run a public pilot open to every referee coach at the tournament, and more than 55 matches were coached live through the app.

A demanding first test

Kanga Cup was the right place to find out whether the software holds up. Between 13 and 17 July, more than 350 teams played over 1,000 games, with 200 referees appointed across the week. Coaches logged matches at seven venues around Canberra, often at the same time.

Coaching from the touchline

The tournament's Team One referees and their coaches used RefWhistle live on the sidelines and behind the scenes. Instead of filling a notebook and writing everything up that night, coaches logged each incident as it happened, using a minimal-tap mobile interface built to be used without looking down for long. Every entry is stamped to the match clock, tagged to the official it concerns and rated on the spot.

Those entries feed straight into an After Action Report matrix, so the report is already taking shape by full time. That is the whole point of RefWhistle: better referee coaching, and no more Sunday night reports.

One view of every venue

Every log synced instantly to a central operations dashboard. Tournament administrators could follow matches as they were being coached and manage incidents from one location, without needing to be at every ground.

What comes next

RefWhistle is already in use at Capital Football to manage referee availability. The next stage, referee management and appointments, is nearing completion behind the scenes.
